About the Project
The Middle East Partnership Initiative
(MEPI) seeks innovative ideas and approaches to developing strong
programs within and across the Middle East and North Africa. Supported
by a MEPI grant and through “Youth Empowerment through Online
Freelancing and Remote Employment in Gaza” project, GGateway aims to
empower ICT recent graduates/senior students to be able to start
freelancing careers through online freelancing platforms. During 2017
GGateway trained 300 beneficiaries on online freelancing skills. Over 20
training courses were conducted; each course consisted of 40 hours of
intensive training, and delivered to groups of 15-20 beneficiaries. The
top 100 performers during the training and subsequent evaluations are
selected to be hosted for 3 months in GGateway’s co-working space
(GHub). During their hosting phase, beneficiaries benefit from technical
trainings and freelancing mentoring in an effort to help them further
enhance their freelancing careers. So far around 50 beneficiaries have
completed their hosting phase, and 50 more will undergo the same process
over the coming three months
